Music Video: Africa

Image
This music video project has been a great experience. This was the first time that I've done a decent amount of research for editing. The music video turned out better than I expected it to. However, I feel like our group could have improved some things or add some things to the music video. One thing that our group could've improved on was the overall structure of the video.      We felt that although the music video wasn't bad, it felt that it was lacking a bit content wise. This project had us step out of our comfort zone and had us experiment. Anyways, I'm still glad that I got to work on this project with my group members. I would be glad to work with them for future projects as I feel that we work great together. Overall I had an awesome experience with my group members and I had such a great time filming at the park.

Editing: Finishing the process

Today was our groups final day of editing the music video. After doing research from our last editing session. I felt ready today to help out with finishing up the editing.       We started off by going on a call on discord and discussed what needed to be done today. We noticed that the clips were a little too long for the music video. We had to cut the clips that were too long. Jorge researched different clipping methods so he just gave Alex and I as much information as he could.     First we had to edit the biking scene. I suggested changing the color tone to make the scene look brighter and more joyful. Jorge suggested using one of the editing techniques which is called a parallel editing cut which I thought was perfect for the shot. This makes the scene look like a continuous shot from different angles.      After we went onto editing the transitions for each of the scenes. Alex took part in most of the transitions since he was researching this subject more. When Alex was edi

Editing: Researching different techniques

My partners and I were researching different techniques and ways of editing.  I researched color and lighting. Jorge focused on researching different cutting techniques. Meanwhile, Alex focused on doing transitions and different filters and effects within the editor. Something that I forgot to mention last editing blog is that the name of the editor is DaVinci Resolve 17. I feel that this editor is great as there is many things that you can do on the editor.      One thing that I learned about lighting is that a darker lighting can create a sadder scene. Also, a brighter lighting can create a scene with a better mood. Lighting is often used to help express the emotion of the scene to the viewer. Typically the more advanced the video and film production, the more advanced the lighting is. Also, there are some benefits from having good lighting such as good lighting being appealing to the human eye.     After researching lighting, I researched coloring. Color adds energy and excite

Editing: Starting the process

Image
Our group began the main process of editing the video today. Alex had downloaded the editing software last night so that our group can use it. But the download took long and it finally finished today. Alex was mainly the one doing the editing. Jorge and I would help him with editing and give him ideas on what to edit.     We were all in a call and Alex would share his screen. Alex was sharing his screen to us so that Jorge and I could see what Alex was doing. Alex was sharing his screen to Jorge and I so that we could help him or give suggestions. I waited for Alex to upload all of the clips/scenes onto the editing software. After the clips/scenes were uploaded we began clicking random things on the software to see what would happen. While doing this the software closed and we had to reupload some of the videos back onto the software.     After this happened, we renamed the clips so that we could access them easily. Jorge and I then helped Alex cut the shots to make sure there w

Filming at the park

Today was when we started filming and it went better than expected. First our group went to our filming location at around 1:00 in the afternoon. We came early in the afternoon so that we didn't have to worry about it getting dark outside. Alex started off by going over the storyboard and explaining our roles for the music video. While waiting for our friend to come over to the park, Alex was filming some scenes that didn't need me in it so I was just sitting on a bench waiting. The scenes that Alex filmed were scenes of the park and scenes that included only Jorge in them and I was just watching them film those scenes. Once Alex finished all the scenes that didn't require me, Alex began to film the scenes that required the rest of the group as well as me.      The first shot that required me that Alex filmed was Jorge coming over to greet all of us that are standing on a hill. After this we moved onto a scene of our group entering a mysterious back area in the park.
